The person who /literally invented/ Forgotten Realms comes out in support of trans characters.
Can’t wait for Gamergate to tell him he doesn’t know the lore of his own creation.
Most GGers are fine with trans folk. It’s shitty writing of trans folk that got everyone riled up. The entire conversation with the cleric is basically
You: Hi, interesting name you have there
The cleric: HI I’M TRANSWhat kingofdersecest mentioned is exactly what tokenism is.
Exactly. The problem isn’t that the character is trans, it’s that it’s a highly insulting caricature of a trans person which lacks any sort of distinguishable personality beyond being trans. It’s dehumanising and disturbing that Amber Scott seems to think that stereotyping people based on their sex, gender, etc. is an acceptable writing standard. Write people as people since trans people are people too.
Aaaand here’s the problem. “The Realms have ALWAYS had characters who changed their gender with shapeshifting.” So…why is the character trans besides straight up tokenism? Why haven’t they used SHAPESHIFTING to change their gender yet?

How to tell that somebody has no clue about Aber-Toril or D&D. They don’t realize how fucking easy a trans person would have it, given the 30+ spells that would make HRT and/or SRS unnecessary, and would actually make them a full on transition.
Literally this whole thing is tokenism, and even Ed should realize it, since it’s based off of his own D&D campaign.
You even get a girth early on in Baldur’s Gate that permanently changes the character’s gender. Assuming that the trans character has the resources to acquire items or spells such as those, there’s no reason for it to feel gender dysphoria other than blunt tokenism.
“it”
Nice.
Anyways, since ‘tokenism’ is your issue, I have to assume you are supportive of developers making more prominent transgender characters and putting them in their games?
You seem too blinded by your bias to realise that the vast majority gamers don’t give a solitary fuck about the identity politics of a character. You keep ignoring the actual issue which definitely is not your strawman of “YOU PEOPLE DON”T WANT TRANS PEOPLE IN GAMES” when the issue has always been “we don’t want these highly insulting stereotypes of any group in our games because it’s shit writing”. There is a massive difference between not wanting a character entirely and wanting a character to be well written. If you think that the only way to fix the situation is to remove the character then it is you who is the bigot here, not anyone else. Everyone else just wants a person realistic to the setting rather than a token attempt played for political gain by the writer. It’s a disservice to trans people for them to be politicised in this way and here you are defending it. You’ve also ignored the amount of trans people complaining about it not representing them in the Steam reviews for the DLC.
If it’s well written then we don’t care if it’s male, female, transgender, gay or whatever other labels you want to run with. I’m happy for there to be more characters regardless of their position on the identity spectrum provided they are written properly and are not mere stereotyping by an incompetent writer looking to play politics.
All you do is make snide insinuations that the bigots are the people demanding the humanisation and higher standards for the writing of transgender characters when in reality you are the real bigot for accepting a stereotype.
No, actually, I’m just tired that every time a gay or transgender character is included in a game there has to be The Discussion.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a main character, a side character, or a random NPC who has two lines of dialogue in the whole game.
No matter what it is, we have to get into these stupid fights over and over again. It’s not even worth talking about anymore because no matter what it is, the second we have a character who isn’t cis or heterosexual, we have to hear the same old “diversity checklist” shit. So yeah, I’ll be happy when we can have a transgender character in a game and people just roll with it for once.
